Question: I was a studly and ent in the US in 1993 ...by mistake i moved from one shop to the other unknowingly that they were two different shops and i had my selected items in hand to pay for ...the store police caught me and took me to the jail....however i was freed on bail after i explained and they asked me to appear before the court in 10 days .i was travelling back the next day after completing my studies so a friend went to the hearing ...

i was not found guilty and the case was dismissed ....but still now my name appears on the list when ever i apply for a visa at any us embassy . its been nearly 20 years now ...how do i clear my name from the criminal list though i was not even convicted .....the name appeared on list after 9/11

Answer: You failed to appear in court, and were found not guilty? Probably NOT. If you failed to appear in court, the judge would most likely issue a bench warrant for your arrest. If you have an outstanding warrant, because you failed to appear, your name would appear on the list. If you failed to appear in court, the judge would never be allowed to proceed to trial (even a bench trial) in your absence. So, your friend got it wrong. You need to retain counsel to help you clear up the matter.
